With the distraction of present buying, social events and Christmas coming up, it’s very easy to get distracted from routine responsibilities such as making sure your dog’s vaccinations and boosters are up-to-date.

Vaccinations for puppies

At Douglas Hall Kennels, all puppies receive their first vaccination (1 of 2) before leaving us. However, as a new owner it’s your responsibility to ensure they receive their second vaccination. These vaccinations can help protect your puppy against Parvo virus, Distemper, Canine Hepatitis, Leptospirosis, Kennel Cough, Advenovirus and Para-Influenza.

These vaccinations should be followed by a booster after 12 months and then annually thereafter.

Vaccinations for dogs

It’s never too late to start your dog on vaccinations, even if they are a little older. What’s more, if your four-legged friend doesn’t receive their booster within the initial twelve-month period, most vets will prescribe the full vaccination and start the course of treatment again.

At DHK we work closely with Myerscough Veterinary Group and advise all puppy owners to find and work with a vet they are comfortable with to ensure the health of their dog throughout it’s life. If you’re unsure of when your dog’s vaccination is due, give your vet a quick call. Remember it’s never too late to help protect your dog from dreadful diseases and keep their vaccinations and boosters up-to-date.
